oapen.abstract.otherlanguageThis paper examines the relationships established between the 1950s and 1970s between the Italian government and the Catholic missionaries in Somalia as part of international cooperation. Using mainly unpublished documentation found at the Historical Archives of the Order of Friars Minor in Rome and the Archives of the St. Anthony Province of the Friars Minor in Milan, the essay reconstructs the collaboration that took place between the Italian authorities and the missionaries in the field of educational activities, technical preparation and health care, over about three decades.
