Taking contemporary popular culture and its immanent theory building as its starting point, this edited volume is the first to ask whether the category "popular" can be applied to the Middle Ages and early modern period. The contributions take an interdisciplinary perspective to shine a light on the popularization processes for visual artifacts and phenomena, particularly in light of their distribution, reproduction, variation, and serialization.
